Politics, Culture and Society in Ghana

This program is not currently active

  • Residency and 3-week intensive classroom instructions (by local professors and ASU faculty) at the University of Ghana, Legon.
  • Four (4)-week Internship period of immersion in an on-going research project with local researchers and faculty; or placement in government, private sector, NGO programs, depending on students’ interests.
  • Three Cities: Accra, Cape Coast and Kumasi
  • Academic Visits to WEB DuBois Museum and Cultural Center, Ghana National Parliament, Ghana National Museum, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra; Manhya Palace Museum and Cultural Center, Military Fort and Museum, and West Africa’s biggest open air market, Bosumtwi Asteroid Lake all in Kumasi; El Mina Castle (Slavery and African Diaspora Museum), Kakum National Forest Park (including hiking and canopy walk on tropical rain forest), animal sanctuary; Akosombo Dam and Ada Community Radio station on environment and community resilience; and more!
  • Open to students all students with a 2.0 GPA or higher
  • Earn 6 credits

Program Fee includes: tuition for 6 ASU credits, lodging, several excursions, 3 overnight trips, internship experience, and international health insurance. Not included: trans-Atlantic airfare, most meals, passport, visa, books and personal expenses.

Eligibility

Open to all students with a 2.0 GPA or higher. No pre-requisites. All college affiliations accepted.

Accommodations

Students will be housed in shared accommodations at the International Students' Hostels while in Legon and hotels during excursions.
