Alumni Advisory Board

In 2016 the School formed an SPGS Alumni Advisory Board.  The board, which is made up of the Director, Associate Director and alumni, meet to discuss servicing undergraduates, building alumni engagement, and strategic planning for the School’s enrollment and academic offering.  The current board members are listed below.

Whitney Chapa

Whitney Chapa currently serves as the Executive Director of the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools, the statewide charter school authorizer that is charged with overseeing the academic, financial and operational performance of the 536 charter schools in its portfolio. Whitney previously served as the State Policy Director for K-12 Funding for the Foundation for Excellence in Education, and served as the K-12 budget analyst for Arizona Governor Janice K Brewer.

Scott D. Gore

Scott D. Gore is the Chief of Staff (Acting) in the Office of NexGen for the Federal Aviation Administration. He is the principal advisor to the Assistant Administrator for NextGen and provides leadership, coordination, and guidance for the FAA’s NextGen programs and activities.

Sarah Heeter

Sarah Heeter considers herself a professional feminist and a life-long Sun Devil. She has spent the last four years working for Girl Scouts - Arizona Cactus Pine Council and holds a Master of Public Administration, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Conflict Resolution, all from ASU.

Vada O. Manager

Vada O. Manager is CEO of the Manager Global Consulting Group and a Senior Counselor of APCO Worldwide -- both are global strategic business consultancies with offices in Washington, DC; Phoenix, Arizona and Portland, Oregon. Prior to his current roles, Mr. Manager served on Nike Inc.'s Global Leadership Team including work with M&A transactions.

Danny J. Mazza

Danny J. Mazza, Attorney at Law with Mazza Law Center, PLC, graduated from Arizona Summit Law School, where he excelled in Gift & Estate Taxation and served as Vice President of the Student Bar Association. During law school, he was honored to serve as one of only two legal interns to Governor Jan Brewer. Additionally, Danny obtained a Certificate in International Commercial Arbitration from Georgia State University College of Law while studying overseas.

Andrew F. Ortiz

Andrew Ortiz is a National Fellow with the Center for the Study of the Presidency and is a member of the Congressional Award Foundation Board of Directors in Washington, DC. Ortiz is the President and CEO or Ortiz Leadership Systems, LLC, a leadership consulting and public speaking company.

Akshai J. Patel

Akshai J. Patel is Co-Founder and CEO of Phoenix Collegiate Academy charter schools, a K-12 network in South Phoenix. He attended Barrett, the Honors College ASU, where he was a competitive Debator, Fencer, and President of the Barrett College Council, the honors college's student government. Patel is also the lead founder and a Board Member of DeansList Software, an education technology company that helps high-performing schools across the country use data to improve results.

Matthew Stevenson

Matthew Stevenson is a Partner and the co-leader of Mercer’s Workforce Analytics and Planning practice in North America He is based in Washington, DC and has worked at Mercer since 2000. His work involves using data science to help Mercer clients define their human capital strategy and fine tune the implementation and planning of that strategy in order to support business objectives.

Sakena Young-Scaggs

Sakena Young-Scaggs is an unyielding voice on race, gender, and social justice. After completing both her MDiv and STM at Boston University, she worked and served in Higher Education for over a decade as what she calls an "academic midwife" lending to her contention that we must birth new life every day in the academy and nurture students toward their own success. She has previously served as the Associate Dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University and as the Associate Protestant University Chaplain at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and holds leadership positions in her denomination and local church. “Rev. Sys,” (as called by students) also serves as campus advisor to student ministries and the Gospel Choir Fusion at ASU.
