 Important advising information:
  1. Before you meet with your advisor, please prepare for your appointment by requesting and either saving to computer/laptop or printing out a current DARS report. Review the DARS and write down all your questions for your appoinment.

Show up for your appointment on time and ready to work with your advisor so that s/he can better serve you. You access your DARS report from your “My ASU” web page.  Under the My Programs and eAdvisor box, select the “My Progress Reports (DARS)” link, and then choose “Degree Audit (DARS)”.  For full detailed directions on how to run this report, see our FAQ page.

New Admit: If you are a new admit (or transfer student), your DARS may not yet be accessible through your MyASU homepage. If you do not have the link mentioned above, please click on the “A-Z Index” located at the top of any ASU web page, select the letter “D”, select “DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System)”, choose “DARSWeb for students” and continue to follow prompts to request a new audit.

  2. Student responsibilities during advising appointments:

In order to be most efficient during your advising appointment, be prepared.

Preparation includes but is not limited to:

  • Make informed decisions and plans for completing your education.
  • Learn the requirements for your degree. Read the relevant portions of the online ASU Catalog, major maps, and your DARS.
  • Become familiar with the University and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences policies and procedures.
  • Select courses that complement your interests and career goals.
  • Be an active participant in the learning process.
  • Seek information and assistance as needed.
  • Read the course descriptions and pre-requisites for courses before coming to an advising session.
  • Make a list of your questions and bringing it with you to your appointment.
  • Make a tentative class schedule if you plan to discuss registration.
  • Have available any notes from previous advising sessions and an updated Degree Audit Report (DARS).
  • Have available paper and a pen to take notes.
  • Please be aware that advising appointments are not for picking specific times and days for your classes.  You generally do this on your own as you know your time commitments.
  • If you schedule an appointment, please keep it and be on time, or cancel online and then schedule another appointment online. If you are more than 10 minutes late for your 30 minute appointment (or 20 minutes late for a 60 minute appointment), you will need to reschedule.

        3.  Advisor Responsibilities:

  • Assist students in making informed decisions regarding their educational plans and goals.
  • Clarify requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluate transcripts to show how credits apply toward degree requirements.
  • Help track progress toward graduation.
  • Provide referrals when appropriate.
If you have trouble accessing the electronic scheduling system, please call or leave us a message at 480.965.8563 and we will call you back within 24 business hours to help you set up an appointment.
